Iranian counteractions over Leila Hatami Cannes kiss

Iranian actress Leila Hatami has angered authorities in Tehran by kissing the Cannes film festival’s president on the cheek. Iranian actress Leila Hatami is facing counteractions over kissing the “Gilles Jacob” president of International Cannes Film Festival held in France.

Iran’s deputy culture minister Hossein Noushabadi said that Iranian women are the symbol of chastity and innocence.

“Those who attended international events should pay attention of the trustworthiness and chastity of Iranians, so that a worse image of Iranian women will not be demonstrated to the world,” said Hossein Noushabadi.

He further said that “inappropriate presence” of Leila Hatami at the festival was not in line with our religious beliefs.

She was born into a family with a film background; Leila Hatami got international fame after her film “A separation” directed by Asghar Farhandi, which won 2012 Academy Award for best foreign language film.
